On-Site Chair Massage

work place, clothed mini massages

On-site chair massage has risen in popularity over the last 2 decades.
Many work places now employ a therapist to visit weekly, fortnightly or monthly, providing
staff with a 15 or 20 minute chair massage.

It is a fuss free way of receiving the benefits of massage as it is performed over the clothing,
without the use of oils or needing to leave the office.

Complimenting healthy work place initiatives such as work station ergonomics and rest breaks,
chair massage is a tool for reducing muscular aches and pains and for helping with stress management.

BENEFITS

What does massage do?

Massage warms up the muscles by getting the blood circulating to tension areas, easing stiffness and freeing up mobility.

re-energise

Massage helps to transition the body's nervous system from the 'fight or flight' state to the 'rest and digest' state. This helps a person transition from feeling a bit scattered to feeling calm.

relax

Specific bodywork techniques are applied to communicate with nerve receptors. They, in turn, send messages to your brain which activates self correction processes. Proprioceptors help in correcting alignment of body structures. Touch receptors help release hormones that regulate your mood.

therapy

Massage helps to activate your immune system. Passive movement of tissues helps flush the lymphatic system which is the system responsible for fighting off those nasty bugs.

The Therapist

Kath Courtenay has been working in the body therapies field for two decades.  She aims to use the least amount of force and instead use more strategic, communicative approaches to help the body repair and re-balance itself.

Her learning has explored both Western and Eastern approaches.  These include:

  • Pfrimmer cross fibre massage
  • Esalen relaxing massage
  • Foot reflexology
  • Chair massage
  • Vodder manual lymphatic drainage
  • Traditional Thai massage
  • Mudra bodywork and Prema Ayurveda massage

These days, as well as incorporating the above methods, she has an interest in subtle bodywork.  She started learning Ortho-Bionomy in 2018 and now incorporates these techniques it into her work.
